Alpaca and alpaca blends
Qina Yarn is a blend of 80% Baby Alpaca and 20% Bamboo rayon. The term “baby” refers to yarn that comes from the first, and softest, shearing of an animal.
Please note: This yarn is not organic!
Proceeds from its sale go to the Mirasol Project, which supports indigenous alpaca herding communities in the remote highlands of Peru. Set up in 2006, it provides health care and educational opportunities for disadvantaged children.
For patterns we are carrying Jane Ellison's knitting design books, The Mirasol Accessories Collection (Book 6) and The Mirasol Garment Collection (Book 7).
Weight and Length: 50 grams/ 1.75 ounces, and has 91 yards/83 meters of yarn.
Stitches: 5 per inch. About 20 stitches and 26 rows per 4 square inches.
Needle size: US 6 (4mm)
Finishing: Hand wash items and lay flat to dry. Woolite is too strong to use on alpaca; a very gentle shampoo, like baby shampoo, works well.
